With the overdrive control all the way down, the Rumble Seat acts as a smooth tone enhancer; it also acts as a switchable volume boost. Start turning up the Gain and you’re rewarded with a sweet, tube-like overdrive. Past the 2 o’clock setting, the Gain control reaches its maximum gain amount while continuing to add harmonic richness. Even when cranked to the max, the Overdrive section in the Rumble Seat maintains its definition, bite and clarity.

With a delay range of 25ms to 650ms, the delay in the Rumble Seat is ready to dial in a wide range of classic delay effects. Analog Alien designed the delay in the Rumble Seat to keep your guitar’s signal intact, without weakening bass response (like some delay circuits can do).
Classic-sounding reverb to finish off your tone.
Many consider the reverb on a vintage Fender Black Face amp to be “The Holy Grail” of all spring reverbs – and we humbly agree. (We have four vintage Black Face amps at our recording studio, Cloud 9 Recording – where all of our pedals were born.) The sound is never brittle; it is dark and rich with plenty of shimmer. With this pedal, we’ve created the sweet spring reverb of our favorite vintage tube amplifier. Combined with the outstanding Overdrive and Delay sections, the Reverb circuit in the Rumble Seat is the perfect way to finalize your tone.
How to use the Rumble Seat pedal:
Output knob – controls the direct output level when the Rumble Drive is engaged. The more you turn it up, the more output you send to your amp.
Tone knob – is very versatile and sensitive. You can dial in the right amount of treble or bass, depending on the guitar you use and its pickups.
Gain knob – controls the amount of gain you send to the circuit.
Delay knob – controls the time of the delay. At full left, the delay time is 25ms. At full right, the delay time is 650ms. The delay circuit is very natural and smooth. If you want to kick it up a notch and give it a bit of attitude, just add in a little Rumble Drive. The one thing that you will notice is that your guitar’s tone will remain full and rich. Some delay circuits rob the guitar of its low end. That doesn’t happen with the Delay on the Rumble Seat. Like a vintage tape delay, the more you overdrive the delay on the Rumble Seat, the sweeter it gets.
Repeat knob – controls the amount of repeats the effect will produce. At full left, only one repeat will be present. At full right, the delay goes to infinity; this setting is more like an effect as the repeats trail over themselves, making the Rumble Seat sound like a space ship taking off!
Mix knob – controls the amount of dry (no effect) and wet (total delay) signals. At full left, only the direct, unaffected signal of the guitar is heard. At full right, only the effected delay sound of the guitar is heard. As with all the controls on the Rumble Seat, set this to suit your taste.
Reverb knob – we don’t believe in making things complicated and the Reverb circuit is a fine example of that philosophy – it has one control that is simple and straightforward. When we voice the reverb in the Rumble Seat, we A/B it every step of the way [with the original circuit found in those amps]. Turn it all the way to the left for no reverb. Turn it all the way to the right, and you get enough reverb to fill the Grand Canyon!

After 60(!!!) years of playing I got my pedal board to as near perfection as it can be at this time. Translation: I am mostly happy with the sound. The biggest factor by far in this outlook is 100% total, don’t change a thing about it, satisfaction with my Analog Alien Rumble Seat. I can do it all, Surf (primary music), rockabilly, bluesy rock, 40s and 50s jazzy instrumentals, Santana stuff; it’s all there, if it’s not turn the knobs and you’ll find it. I need to add a tremolo pedal to this since that is an integral part of my sound. Are you fine gentleman going to make one and rescue me from my current, oh so fine, but not made here tremolo pedal? The overdrive is just what my picky ears ordered – never harsh but smooth and creamy, the delay – can you say Rockabilly? Rhythmic echoes drive some of my surf tunes also. The Reverb is also what I was looking for. It’s not quite as deep as I like for some of my surf stuff but I’ve got that base covered. In a pinch the Rumble Seat could do it all and it has quite nicely. Thanks Aliens – you made my board and me happy!

I’ve owned this pedal for about 2 months, and I have to say that it’s one of my favorite pedals ever. I have tried a LOT of overdrive and distortion pedals over the years (OR RevivalDrive HR, Revv G2, G3, G4, Friedman BE-OD, Dirty Shirley, Smallbox, JHS superbolt, AT, PG-14, J. Rockett .45 calibur, majestic, blue note, Xotic SL drive, Wampler plexi drive, Greer lightspeed and southland, Walrus Ages and Eras, T Rex Honey drive, Mad professor honey drive, supreme drive, royal blue (you get the idea–a lot). However, the Rumble Drive on this thing (and this goes for the separate Bucket Seat pedal, which I also own) is one of the best I’ve tried. At lower gain levels, it does this vintage marshall thing that is uncompressed and very dynamic–in that it really bites when you dig in. At higher gain levels (12 o’clock and higher) it saturates into an orange-style of overdrive. It’s never super compressed and cleans up with the volume knob even at these higher gain levels. However, my favorite features are how well it stacks with any boost and how well it is voiced. Throw any boost or OD in front of it, and you turn it into a fire-breathing monster with outstanding harmonics and a ton of character. This thing has three knobs, but there are really no bad settings on it. It does not kill your low and it has this power tube grind that I love. I have an orange rocker 15 that I will crank and the power tube distortion I get on that is similar to what I get out of the rumble drive. I also crank my little supro amp and I can get a similar tone just out of this pedal.
Onto the delay.
This delay is an analog style delay and it’s very easy to dial in and just sounds great. It doesn’t overpower and because the repeats kind of decay, it sounds great with distortion. The reverb is a spring style with a bid of modulation. It’s subtle at low settings, but sounds great for just a touch of verb. It does get big and lush at higher settings. I often combine it with real spring reverb or my talisman plate ‘verb and it adds some character. This pedal is marketed as a rockabilly thing, but if you want, it can do metal. I play everything on it and love it. Thanks!
